Colleen Stearns
Dr. Colleen E. Stearns has worked as part of the IDEA Public Schools team since 2015, most recently as the Chief Academic Officer. She has also served as the Vice President of Curriculum & Instruction, district program coordinator, curriculum designer, and the Director of English Language Arts and Spanish at IDEA Public Schools. Colleen worked in Dallas ISD and Manor ISD as a PK-12 teacher, Reading Specialist, dyslexia interventionist, campus administrator, and district program coordinator. She currently lives in Belton, TX with her husband and four children.
Colleen has also taught graduate level courses in Advanced Literacy, Elementary Methods, and Secondary English Language Arts curriculum and instruction and served as a University Supervisor at Concordia University Texas, coaching and evaluating Advanced Literacy interns who were completing their M.Ed. in Advanced Literacy and pursuing the Texas Reading Specialist Certification. Additionally, Colleen is a curriculum auditor with Curriculum Management Solutions, Inc., and serves with teams who audit school systems across the United States; Colleen has been on audit teams in Texas, Connecticut, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Maryland. Colleen earned her B.A. at Southwestern University, and her M.Ed. in Educational Administration and M.Ed. in Advanced Literacy at Concordia University Texas. She completed her Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction at Concordia University Texas with a focus on effective professional development for Advanced Placement mathematics and science teachers (Professional Development for AP Mathematics and Science Teachers: A Qualitative Study of Teachers’ Perspectives on Increasing Pedagogical Content Knowledge).
