Dr. Cathy Pressnell serves as the Literacy Coordinator for Grades 3-6 with Murfreesboro City Schools in Murfreesboro, TN. She began her career in education teaching third grade in Chester County, Tennessee. While a member of the faculty at West Chester Elementary School, she served as a classroom teacher, teacher leader, and coach. In 2016, Dr. Pressnell was selected as the Tennessee Teacher of the Year. In that capacity, she served as an ambassador for public education in Tennessee, traveling across the state and nation to give talks, lead workshops, and bring teacher voice to government and nonprofit work. Since then, Dr. Pressnell has worked as the Director of Literacy for the Tennessee Early Literacy Network, the Director of Educator Engagement for the Tennessee Department of Education, and the academic coach at Salem Elementary.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi, her master’s degree and reading specialist endorsement from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and her doctorate in Learning Organizations and Strategic Change from Lipscomb University.
