Emily Glasgow

Senior Director, PK-5 Academics
Portland Public Schools
OR

For over 25 years, Emily has been teaching and leading in public schools and school systems across the country. Emily began her professional journey as a 3rd grade teacher in the Oakland Unified Schools and gathered early school leadership experience as a founding teacher of Oakland’s first small autonomous school, ACORN Woodland. From there, Emily moved to the Boston area, where she helped found Excel Academy Charter School and then became a principal in the Boston Public Schools. Over a decade ago, Emily returned to her hometown of Portland, Oregon, where she served first as a principal and now serves as a district leader. In Emily’s current role of Senior Director of PK-5 Academics in the Portland Public Schools (PPS), she oversees PK & early learner programs, elementary teaching and learning, learning acceleration, and summer programs for a district of 45,000 students. During Emily’s tenure in the PPS central office, she has led PPS’s 60 district elementary schools through adoption and initial implementation of new high quality instructional materials in ELA, math, and science–with social studies soon to follow.

Emily has a masters in educational leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a doctorate of education in school leadership from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education. She is passionate about the ways in which public school and system leaders can (and must!) build, sustain, and support inclusive, high-quality learning opportunities for all students–specifically, our most historically marginalized student populations.
